Route 66

Originally running from Chicago to Los Angeles, Route 66 (otherwise known as the Mother Road) was built in 1926 and covered nearly 2,500 miles. The route is traditionally travelled from East to West, as this was the path travelled by many seeking a better life during the vast migrations of the 1930s.

Whilst Route 66 was officially delisted from the United States Highway System in 1985 as it was all but replaced by the Interstate Highway System, long stretches still exist under what is now known as ‘Historic Route 66’.

An absolute must for anyone with a bike, we can heartily recommend this amazing road system to anyone with a sense of fun or a need to travel and meet new people. Different sections of Route 66 offer something suitable for everyone, and there is nothing more spectacular than picking and choosing the best parts of this route to ride on your very own bike.

Because of the popularity of Route 66 the shipping very often works out cheaper than hiring a bike whilst you are out there, so it is definitely worth exploring as a possibility.

For the USA you will need ESTA approval which allows you to join the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), or if staying for longer than 90 days you may need a visa. You can find out more here.

For your bike you will need to have EPA approval which is very easy to obtain, and when you are ready to book we will send you samples and help you complete the relevant forms.

Australia

Australia has it all - the weather, the scenery and some of the friendliest people in the world. Whether you enjoy seemingly endless roads that continue over every horizon or coastal paths clinging to some of the best beaches in the world, there is something for everyone in Australia.

Travellers to Australia are required to organise a Carnet de Passage to keep with them during their adventures, so be sure to look into this before you intend to leave. We are happy to advise on carnets. Pre 89 vehciles don’t need a carnet.

We have regular containers to and from Australia which makes the freight very affordable. If you want to ride your own motorcycle in Australia we have frequent containers to and from most major cities in Australia so you don’t normally have to wait long.

For bikes up to the size of a large traile bike the current cost is GB £880 each way which includes all freight, handling and clearance at each end. It includes initial inspections in Australia but not secondary inspections and cleaning if the bike fails the first inspection.

Our colleagues in Australia are motorcyclists and travellers themselves and always happy to help.
